Summertime and the living is easy

If my computer weren't behaving so slowly today, I'd be more inclined to post a longer entry, but I'm tired of waiting.... and waiting.... and waiting. I've only got two and a half weeks until I go back to school (wahhhh!!!!) and I've got to make the best of it, folks, so here's the update on the last few days of my knitting life.

Yesterday the Knitwits, well, four of us anyway, went to Huntsville for another LYS field trip!! We had a great time visiting Meg and the ladies at Yarn Expressions and then sidling across the parking lot to The Chef's Table*, a little eatery--a tapas bar no less!--that has THE BEST crawfish bisque we'd ever put in our mouths. We tried to exact the recipe from him. After all, we outnumbered him fair and square, and we gave him our best teacher stares, but nothing worked. We were forced to leave sans recipe. Even the salads and desserts we had were all homemade and deee-lishus. We definitely plan to go back later this fall. We were especially inspired to return after learning that the crawfish bisque is their soup du jour, tout du jour, so we can never come on the wrong day!!

The best thing about our day, however, was the yarn! And I cannot tell properly document this day without some graphics, so here you go.

smponch.jpg Suzanne and Marion are Rowan initiates!

They inducted themselves into the Rowan fan club with their purchase of Rowan chunky tweed in Pecan and Olive Oil. Marion is highly partial to icky green and Olive Oil fit the bill. They're planning on making open weave ponchos with the turkey basters they call needles. I told them they'll have to start drinking a spot of tea everytime they want to knit with this yarn, just so they know.

smmich.jpg Michelle bought scarf yarn for her growing scarf obsession.

She just learned how to knit last fall, but has turned into quite the knitter!! Her current project, a beautiful lace shawl (lace, no less!!) made with some soft red nylon fluffiness, has her chanting her lace pattern to herself. No, she's not crazy, just a lace knitter.

Here I am pictured with one of my super secret projects (still in early stages, so I don't think I'm giving anything away yet) and my new haircolor. I'm addicted to peroxide, baby, and it's slowly taking over my head. In the yarn realm, I bought more yarn for an ADDITIONAL super secret project--call me addicted!!--so I can't show you. But suffice it to say that my first born child might be named Rowan. Hey, that doesn't have such a bad ring to it...

This entry had to be written in stages due to a buggy scanner driver that hogged all my resources and froze my computer again and again. Once I found the culprit, though, I was off to the races!!

I've finished the chunky scarf I made for a sample project for the knitting class. I should be congratulated on completing one of the "have to" projects when I have so many "want to's" lying around. Go me!

Wish me luck on finishing the hat next!!

*The strip mall in which this store is located includes the most bizarre array of businesses including a sex shop, a tattoo parlor, a vacuum cleaner repair service, a tax preparation service, a scrapbooking store, and a tobacco outlet. Needless to say, the yarn store and the Chef's Table are definitely our favorites!

Hey Rachel, it sounds like y'all had a great trip! Is your scanner a Microtek Scanmaker 3800, by any chance? There was this awful program in my old driver which froze my computer, too.
